HOW A SURVIVOR OVERCAME A PROSTATE CANCER DEATH SENTENCE
If you’ve been wanting a lasting solution, here it is. Kindly take your time to go through this, Happy Reading!!!
The size of the prostate can change as a man ages. In younger men, it is about the size of a walnut, but it can be much larger in older men.
- Older age. The risk of prostate cancer increases as you age. It’s most common after age 50.
- Race. For reasons not yet determined, Black people have a greater risk of prostate cancer than do people of other races. In Black people, prostate cancer is also more likely to be aggressive or advanced.
- Family history. If a blood relative, such as a parent, sibling or child, has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, the risk may be increased. Also, if you have a family history of genes that increase the risk of breast cancer (BRCA1 or BRCA2) or a very strong family history of breast cancer, your risk of prostate cancer may be higher.
- Obesity. People who are obese may have a higher risk of prostate cancer compared with people considered to have a healthy weight, though studies have had mixed results. In obese people, the cancer is more likely to be more aggressive and more likely to return after initial treatment.
Is what you’re going through the reason why you want to give up?
There is no way to prepare for the moment a doctor looks you straight in the eyes and tells you, “You probably have five years to live.” Or the next moment, when he slams his fists on his desk demonstratively and says, “You need surgery immediately.”
Towards the end of 2006, I wasn’t expecting a prostate cancer diagnosis when I agreed to have my PSA tested to help promote a church health fair for the homeless and orphanage home. I have been doing this for a long time and everyone in my family have been doing that too. I had been to the doctor just six months earlier and was told everything looked good. However, after the health fair, I was directed to consult a physician because my PSA level was suspicious. After a biopsy, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer at the age of 46. I was completely shocked.
For days, I wasn’t stable both at home and in my place of work. I had to tell my wife, she was depressed because I could see the countenance on her face. Going forward, we both agreed on choosing a treatment method— robotic surgery. My main concern, though, was making sure the cancer didn’t recur because I have had many people having a case of relapse. I completed roughly a year of treatment, including 40 rounds of radiation. Everything remained stable until two years later, my PSA levels began to rise. I was recently engaged to be promoted in my place of work. I had pursued this particular position for a long time and that could be the peak in my career. I was heartbroken. All of my life’s plans were in jeopardy.
I had completed scans that revealed that the cancer had metastasized in my body. I made a decision that I needed to see if there were other treatment options available to me. I wanted to find a facility that specializes on cancer. One day, I was talking to a friend, and she recommended a popular hospital to me. She had seen the commercials on television, and she had done research to look into it for me. When I called the hospital, they talked to me about how the hospital could help me. They told me that they would make a suitable arrangement for me due to the kind of work I do and also obtain insurance verification to get my medical records. I decided to go and at least check it out.
In 2014, I was at the hospital to meet with the medical oncologist. We’ve both had solid arrangement prior to me coming. I completed tests and scans so they could fully understood the extent of my cancer. The results of the scans came back, and it was revealed that I had stage 4 prostate cancer that had metastasized to the bone. My cancer had spread to my neck, back, rib cage and spinal cord. I was in a deep shock, I already knew I had but never thought it could have gotten that worst.
I was educated on all I needed to know about cancer, presented treatment options and allowed me to ask lots of questions. Then, working together as a team, we formulated a treatment plan that was personalized to me. We collaboratively prepared a personalized, compassionate and aggressive cancer-fighting plan that helped me live my life. During my cancer-fighting journey, I had hormone therapy, chemotherapy, and radiation to relieve back pains. I also underwent a bilateral mastectomy for cosmetic reasons. My family were there for me throughout this period; financially, spiritually, and physically at every step. The aftermath effects from treatment that surfaced were immediately tackled, and I was encouraged to move forward with my personal plans and career goals.
Like all I have gone through wasn’t enough. Fast toward to 2020, I started feeling some symptoms which I had experienced in past years. I was at the hospital to discuss the new development with the doctor. After some tests, this time I’ve had two tumors appear where my prostate used to be— and surgeries to remove them, which have resulted in a whole lot of difficulty with my ability to urinate. I was placed on drugs which I was taking consistently, day and night.
On one of the nights in September, I was in the living room with my wife listening to a radio programme. A prostate cancer survivor was invited to share his stories and how he had gone from being a victim to a survivor. It was a privilege for me to have listened to the man narrate his ordeal. His story was kind of similar to mine, I was caught in between the story line and deep down my heart, I felt the story could be genuine. Prior to that night, I’ve been placed on expensive drugs and nothing really was forthcoming, I just had to keep using them as prescribed.
To cut it short, the man told the story of how he met with a Urologist in one of the hospitals he has been, and the word the person told him was that “I can’t give you a cure, but I can give you a treatment”. The treatment was from a Chinese company. He decided to buy the product, he wanted to try something new and to him, that has been the best piece of information. The treatment changed his life for good! I had taken this treatment and I have introduced it also to many people within my clique, work place, family and friends. It works effectively because it has worked for me and also them, tested and trusted.
